People who stand in the aisle and block everyone from passing

YAY THANKS BUDDY

I don’t know, maybe it’s just something that people in Ottawa do- but EVERYONE here just stands in the middle of any aisle in any store at any time of day and blocks EVERYONE else’s way. People here have fights to see who can block more traffic, and they only go in the most crowded and most used aisles. And there is no greater awkwardness than to slowly crawl past someone who won’t budge while you pretty much exchange bodily fluids because you are so close to them. Anyways, the take home message is; if you want to be my friend, do not stand in an aisle and block my way.

Flats

They are so simple and perfect for my feet. You don’t need to bend down to put them on, just slip on and start walking.  And my love for this beautiful footwear is proven when you look in my closet- I own well over 7 pairs, in an assortment of colours and styles. They go with everything, you can dress them up or down, and they travel so easily. I cannot say anything bad about them, because they have never let me down.

Note- Yes I fell off the wagon, I should have posted this like weeks ago- and I have been reminded by quite a few people. I am sorry. I have just been busy and lazy all at the same time. I am sorry for the wait and the picture of Christoper Walken that has greeted you for two weeks.

Number 9 hate

I do realize that my number 9 hate is not a thing, but I really do hate/am scared of these guys.

Christopher Walken and Gene Wilder

And before someone goes of the deep end, I have very good reasons for hating them.

Christoper Walken reason- when I was pretty young, my mom and dad rented “Sleepy Hollow” and watched it, but did not let me watch it because it was graphic and they were reasonably good at censoring the movies I watched when I was younger. BUT then somehow I managed to get my little hands on the movie and watched it by myself the next morning; in the dark. I was ok until the end, when the horseman gets his head back and kisses the girl, and bites her face and blood is dripping, and my ten year old mind was blown- to smitherines.

Gene Wilder reason- HAVE YOU SEEN WILLY WONKA?! ENOUGH SAID

Dancing on my bed in my underwear listening to George Harrison

I won’t post a picture of this to save your eyes, but I’m sure you can conjure up a great image by yourself *winkwink*

His music makes me happy and I just like to bounce around while listening to it, it just makes my day better and makes my mood just that much more amazing.

My ultimate fave song would have to be “I’ve got my mind set on you”. And just a little while ago, I realize that I had seen the music video of that song (with the moving stuffed deer and hog head, and George sitting by the fire) when I was little and just loved it, so that just goes to show that I had great taste in music even when I was little.

http://youtube.com/watch?v=kmpG-ba4syQ

Please watch this and laugh at 1:50 when fake George does the dance, it kills me. Also, I don’t care that he’s old, I still think he was the cutest Beatle. On that note, and while you are on Youtube, please watch Paul McCartney make mashed potatoes, probably the best video ever created.

Stay tuned for my number 8 love and hate

yes I made that rhyme, sue me.

Top Ten Loves/Hates

In an attempt to keep my writing on this blog I have decided to make two lists- my loves and my hates and post one of each each week, from number 10, until I get to number one on each. Simple concept really, but unbelievably hard to make. I slowly put the lists together, lovingly picking my absolute favourite things and my absolute loathed things.

So without further ado, I give you my loves and my hates

 In tenth place…

Hates

Ski tags on people’s zipper-pulls.

Here in Ottawa, I cannot walk down the hallwall/street/stairwell without seeing someone with a ski tag on their zipper-pull.

I have only two words for those people who choose to do this

skitag.jpg

please no

Honestly, you look like a crazy douche bag

I cannot bring myself to talk about this anymore, so the end.

 Loves

Room temperature root beer. Odd, I realise, but it is the only pop that I can tolerate, and I can only really tolerate it when it’s room temperature.

I literally set the pop out for 20 minutes before I drink it because it’s the only way I like to drink it. It also cuts down on the amount burps, soooo win win.

I had a weird experience at the grocery store today. I was standing in front of the fruit and vegetable display, debating whether to get broccoli or cauliflower when a man came and stood to the right of me. I stood staring at the green florets, but I could tell from my peripherals that he was staring at me. I turned to meet his eyes, and without taking his eyes off of me, took a head of broccoli and handed it to me and said, “You seem like a broccoli person, cauliflower would be too bland for you, plus it is on sale”. And as he pushed the vegetable into my hands, his hand grazed mine, and we both looked down to our hands, he suddenly withdrew his, smirked slightly, and then walked away. I put it back on the shelf, deciding that neither would be a good choice, and continued onto the nectarines.

Now, I have had quite a few strange experiences with the people of Ottawa since I moved here; I was in a hit and run accident with a bicycle, a woman and her 12 year old son invited me into their home to get a band-aid for my scrapped knee from the aforementioned bike meets body and then runs over body incident, I was told my eyebrows were the best feature on my face, I was given a free coffee and cookie for saying that the server’s hair looked amazing (she was having a bad day, and I was the first person to be nice to her), I`ve been in a shouting match with the receptionist man who looks like Jesus for my dorm building because he wouldn`t let me into my room, I`ve had to report an accident which I witnessed when a man drove down the wrong way on a one way street and collided with another car, I have been shown how to properly put on nipple clamps, I have been offered 25$ for my shoes, I offered my scarf to a child on the bus, I`ve been on a bus that slid down a hill and into a ditch and then stranded for 25 minutes while we waited for help, I had the most interesting and profound conversation with a taxi driver, I performed 3 Incubus and 2 White Stripes songs with a complete stranger on the side of the Rideau Canal, and many others, many of which I cannot mention because, well they are XXX or involve some sort of law being broken, but I would have to say that the broccoli moment is by far the strangest moment so far.

I just keep replaying it, he did not make me feel uncomfortable, or queasy, but still, why me, why on earth would he come to me, a complete stranger and tell me to choose broccoli…

So, here are some facts about broccoli; it is high in vitamin C as well as anti-cancer agents such as selenium, there is an urban legend that broccoli was born when cauliflower and a type of pea were germinated together, but it has since been determined to be false, it is believed to have it`s origin in ancient Rome, and was a popular vegetable in Italy long before it became popular in the United States or Canada, only becoming a house hold food in the late 1920`s, during his presidency, George H.W. Bush stated that he did not like broccoli, and in response to his claim, an agricultural group shipped 3 tons of it to his house, and it was found that large amounts of it can reduce the growth of highly agressive prostate cancer.

During the break, my mother saw my tattoo, and I was trying to keep it a secret from her, so now that the cat is out of the bag, I thought I might as well share it with everyone just in case not everyone has seen it. 25222524.jpg

It is the first line of “On the Grasshopper and the Cricket” by John Keats, who by the way is my favourite poet. Needless to say my mother is anything but thrilled about it. I understand her worries, but it’s my body and I will do to it what I see fit.

Also, my spanish lover Javier Bardem won the Academy Award for Best Actor in a Supporting Role, as well as Diablo Cody for Best Original Screenplay for Juno. I knew Ellen Page was not going to win for Best Actress in a Leading Role, but I am not worried, her time will come. I was disappointed that with 13 nominations, Canada did not take home one statue. ”I Met the Walrus” and “Mrs. Tutli Putli” lost to “Peter and the Wolf”, which correct me if I’m wrong has been around for 500 billion years, how about awarding an original and innovative short animated film for a change? I was also mad about Best Director and in extension Best Picture. I am not denying the Coen brothers did a great job, I have only seen the first 20 minutes of “No Country for Old Men”, but I really liked what I saw. My beef is how they accepted their awards. I realize they are not actors, but they couldn’t show one bit of emotion? They walked up there and talked as if it was a chore; do they not know that the little golden man in their hands is the highest honour in their field of work? I’m not asking for jumping jacks and cartwheels across the stage, but some indication that they were proud/excited to win the award for BEST DIRECTION AND BEST PICTURE would be nice. I saw more excitement from Jason Reitman, who cheered very lively when he lost to them. Anyways, that is my rant about the show last night. Oh wait, one more thing, WHY was the award for Best Actress in a leading role given out so early on in the show? In award shows, they always save the best and most important awards for the ending, but they announced Marion Cotillard as the winner at the halfway point. It really is not a huge deal, but it just further widens the gap between female and male actors. Females always seem get the vulnerable, neurotic, stereotypical roles, while the males get these incredible mind blowing roles, I personally have never really connected to a female role as I have to male characters, because honestly, who do I have to connect with? Eric Brockovich? Queen Elizabeth? I just think they should at least put the awards next to eachother in the show to at least try and pretend that the gender roles are equal. ALSO, Cate Blanchett WAS ROBBED for supporting role for “I’m Not There”, like what is the deal with “Michael Clayton”? How much money did the studio have to pay for those nominations?

Ok, now I am done.

Well, it’s 1.00 am and I’m watching Conan and trying to finish my lab report on blood hemolysis. I’ve sort of come out of my flunk, except for the fact that I still can’t sleep properly, but what else is new?

Also, if anyone doesn’t read my aunt’s blog, (shame on you because it’s an amazing piece of interweb heaven) totally pick up a copy of Cat Fancy magazine because she wrote an article about cats in Korea, which is very interesting inside look at the lives of felines in South Korea. Just a sidenote; if you want to buy it, don’t go to Chapters because a really good looking salesman will laugh at you and make you frantically explain that you don’t read it, it’s just because blah blah blah.. because they will not believe you and you end up coming off as a crazy person.

ok so I’m going to turn off the light and stare at the ceiling for a little, and then maybe stare at my lab which is far from being finished (HA, oh god how am I still in university?)

homes is out,

oh wait, I recommend listening to The Black Kids, if you go there website, you can download their album for free and it’s actually quite good (it’s only 4 songs but whatevz)

ok now i swear homes is out

This post as well as all subsequent posts are dedicated to Robb, who against almost impossible odds started walking without a cane today. He is my hero in more ways than he will ever know.

Anyways, in other news, I’ve been in a serious emotional/mental rut? I don’t think that’s a good word, but I really can’t think of a better one. I just feel that my life is not really worth a whole lot right now and I can’t really get out of it. I just don’t really know what to do about it, so I just end up getting more and more overwhelmed. I also have stopped sleeping again. I try so hard just to get a few hours of sleep, but I end up just staring at the ceiling or find myself wandering around the campus or down by the canal.

I was happy about going home for reading week, but now I’m not even sure.
